Abstract

VELEZ-ALVAREZ, Consuelo; VIDARTE-CLAROS, José Armando  and  PARRA-SANCHEZ, José Hernán. Levels of Sedentarism in the Population between 18 and 60 Years of Age in Manizales, Pereira and Armenia, Colombia: A Multivariate Analysis. Aquichan [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.3, pp.303-315. Objective: Determine the variables that predict the level of physical inactivity in the population between 18 and 60 years of age in Manizales, Pereira and Armenia (2012). Materials and methods: This is a cross-sectional study with phase correlation of 1,535 persons. The participants were selected through random probability sampling. The variables analyzed were age, gender, weekly practice, body mass index (BMI), hip circumference and initial heart rate. The Pérez and Rojas test was used to measure physical inactivity. Results: In all, 58.7% of the people in the sample engage in physical activity. The associated variables were marital status, schooling, level and frequency of physical activity, smoking, alcohol, coffee, BMI and age (p <= 0.00 ). Gender was not associated with the level of physical inactivity. Hallucinogens are a risk factor. Conclusions: Marital status, schooling, level and frequency of physical activity, smoking, alcohol, coffee, BMI and age significantly explain the extent of physical inactivity in the population ages 18 to 60. The model predicts 65.3% of those who have a sedentary lifestyle.

Keywords : Physical activity; obesity; gender; sedentary lifestyle.
