Abstract
HILLERKUSS, Thomas. The Mines of New Spain in the Maps of The 16th Century. A Secret of State?. Apuntes [online]. 2013, vol.26, n.1, pp.10-25. ISSN 1657-9763.
For over 80 years the Spanish Crown managed to protect their interests by preventing the actual number of the Spanish held mines "Real de Minas" in New Spain from appearing on maps published in Europe. The strategy worked until some of the people who were responsible for this 'State Secret' began to spread information about the location of these deposits that had contributed so much to the royal treasury.
