Abstract
Francisco José de Caldas and the Militar Geography in the Province of Antioquia (1813-1815). Apuntes [online]. 2013, vol.26, n.1, pp.46-61. ISSN 1657-9763.
During the Nueva Granada interregnum, Francisco José de Caldas played an important role in ensuring the legitimacy of the new political order in the Province of Antioquia through the formal use and teaching of mapping applied to military strategy. In the Gazeta Ministerial de la República de Antioquia Journal the proposal of the Enlightenment leaders about the professionalization of the army was published and later established by the creation of the Military Engineers Academy. Processes led by Caldas such as the fortification of the southern border, the achievements of the Artillery Armory and activities of the Academy, had a significant influence on the press, posing serious challenges to the General Government of the United Provinces while promoting a military solution, rather than a juridical one, as an alternative to defend the cause of Independence.
