Abstract
MARIN URIBE, Carlos Rodolfo and GUZMAN MELENDEZ, María Rosa. COMPARACIÓN DE MÓDULOS DINÁMICOS DE PROBETAS ELABORADAS POR EL MÉTODO MARSHALL Y POR EL MÉTODO SUPERPAVE. Rev. ing. univ. Medellin [online]. 2007, vol.6, n.10, pp.67-76. ISSN 1692-3324.
All over the world, major programs have been carried out in order to improve the behavior of asphalt mixtures. Among them is the one led by the United States called 'Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP)' which develops new tests to measure the properties of the materials that constitute the mixture and for the mixtures, such as construction materials. One of SHRP's final products is the Superpave system (Superior Performance Asphalt Pavements). In 1996, Colombia changed the specifications for road constructions and introduced requirements on the control of construction processes but without modifying the appreciable way of designing hot mixtures. This article shows the results of a research that aimed at studying one of the many aspects that inspect the performance of asphalt mixtures; this aspect is the mixture design because it is considered to be the stage where one can completely analyze the constitutive materials and the mixtures themselves in order to predict, with a higher rate of certainty, their performance in a construction work under determined conditions of traffic, climate and structural support. Then the article compares de dynamics modulus obtained from sample of asphalt mixtures through two different methodologies: Marshall and Superpave. The first one is traditional in Colombia while the second has not been a successful new alternative in our country yet.
