Abstract

ECHEVERRI, Carlos; VALENCIA-HERNANDEZ, Germán  and  ACOSTA, Alejandro. METHODOLOGY FOR ASSESSING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ON AIR QUALITY IN PROJECTS REDESIGNING COLLECTIVE PUBLIC TRANSPORT ROUTES IN THE CITIES. CASE STUDY: MEDELLÍN. Rev. ing. univ. Medellín [online]. 2012, vol.11, n.20, pp.31-42. ISSN 1692-3324.

This document provides the methodology and necessary procedures to assess the environmental impact on air quality in the projects of redesign of collective public transport routes in main cities around the world. For this purpose, it has been formulated a hypothetical case in the city of Medellin keeping in mind the public transport routes that are complementary to the integrated transport system in the Aburrá Valley, transforming some radial routes in transversal routes or migration to other basins. With the reconfiguration proposed for collective public transport routes, pollutant emissions from buses did not show substantial changes. However, the concentration of particles increased at certain points in the study area, reaching values that exceed the annual standard for air quality (50 µg/m3).

Keywords : Air pollution; redesign of collective public transport routes and modeling of air quality.
