Abstract
ZULETA S, ERNESTO; MANTILLA M, MARIEL; AVENDANO G, INDIRA and D, LUÍS CARLOS. PALM OLEINEPOXIDATION WITH PEROXYACETIC ACID GENERATED IN SITU. Rev.Bio.Agro [online]. 2013, vol.11, n.1, pp.235-244. ISSN 1692-3561.
This article presents the results of a research project aimed at evaluating the production conditions of epoxidized palm olein through in situ generated peroxyacetic acid method. Epoxidized oils are chemical substances of high industrial importance with direct use as plasticizers, or as intermediates in the manufacture of more elaborate chemicals. This work makes an investigative contribution at regional level providing an alternative use for palm olein in the production of value-added products such as epoxidized oils. Under the study conditions, it could be obtained epoxidized palm oleinwithoxirane oxygen percentage of 3,007%, which is comparable to the value required for commercial epoxidized soybean oil according to national regulations
Keywords : Epoxide; African oil palm; Elaeisguineensis; Acetic acid.
