Abstract
AYAZO-GENES, JULIA E. et al. PERFORMANCE OF BOCACHICO Prochilodus magdalenae IN INTENSIVE PRODUCTION SYSTEMS WITH BIOFLOC TECHNOLOGY. Rev.Bio.Agro [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.1, pp.91-101. ISSN 1692-3561. https://doi.org/10.18684/bsaa.v16n1.629.
Biofloc Technology (BFT) is characterized by high densities, low water consumption, and reduced spaces; however, there are few studies adapting this technology to native species such as bocachico Prochilodus magdalenae. The aim was to evaluate the zootechnical performance of bocachico in BFT culture at three densities in the pre-growth stage: 5(T1), 10(T2) y 20(T3) fishes/m3. In nine rectangular tanks of 6 m3 (3/treatment), fingerlings of 1,6±0,2 g and 5,0±0,5 cm of total length were stocked, fed a commercial diet of 24% crude protein and the system was managed by adding molasses and lime based on the C:N ratio. Dissolved oxygen, pH and temperature were measured daily and ammonium, nitrite, nitrate, hardness, alkalinity, sedimentable solids, total suspended solids and sludge volumetric index were measured weekly. Water quality oscillated in the range suitable for bocachico and BFT stability, with no significant difference between treatments (p>0,05). Survival ranged from 78,9±3,8% (T1) to 83,8±0,6% (T3) (p>0,05); the higher growth (74,3±16,0 g, 18,2±1,2 cm) was recorded in T1 (31,9±1,2-45,9±3,4 g, 14,0±0,1-15,8±0,7 cm) and the lower growths were obtained at the higher densities (T2, T3). In conclusion, the culture of bocachico in pre-growth phase is possible with biofloc technology at densities of at least 5 fish/m3.
