Abstract

RODRIGUEZ, Ernesto. Youth and violences in Latin-America: Focusing on integrated prevention. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2007, vol.5, n.2, pp.539-571. ISSN 1692-715X.

Latin-American young men and women are involved, both as victims and as aggressors, in complex situations of violence, motivated by instances of social exclusión. Even though public opinión and decisión makers have expressed their concern, the problem has not been faced in its integrity. Nevertheless, lately there have been some innovative experiences that promise results worthy of comparative analysis. The first part of this paper focuses on the analysis of these experiences. The second part reflects on the lessons learned and on the suggestions to be derived from them for future efforts in the field, particularly for public policy. The paper is supported on an extensive bibliography and its valuable suggestions take into account the diversity of situations in the region.

Keywords : Young men and women; Youth violence; Latin-America; Violence prevention; Public policy.
