Abstract

AILEN MONTENEGRO, Hebe  and  EZQUERRA, María Belén. Meanings of gender constructed in a popular education project. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.2, pp.372-390.  Epub Sep 19, 2022. ISSN 1692-715X.  https://doi.org/10.11600/rlcsnj.20.2.4976.

Over the last few years, Argentinian society has engaged in multiple debates around gender and feminism. The arguments that were wielded often resorted to seeing children as subjects who are affected by adult decisions. However, society does not often listen to children express their ideas about these issues. This study analyses the meanings constructed around gender by children aged between 11 and 15 years old who participated in a popular education project in Villa 31, Buenos Aires using an ethnographic approach. Significant differences between girls and boys in their treatment of gender and sexuality-related themes were identified, as well as the influence of the different locations that children inhabit in their daily lives.

Keywords : Childhood; sexuality; ethnography; education.
