Abstract
ELLERBRACKE ROMAN, Sergio Antonio and LOMELI MIJES, Elba. Social Movements Hacker: counterpower of the pharmaceutical industry. Rev. Guillermo Ockham [online]. 2019, vol.17, n.1, pp.29-39. Epub Feb 09, 2021. ISSN 1794-192X. https://doi.org/10.21500/22563202.4013.
A hacker movement is a social movement that originates from computer technologies and that opposes perverse strategies of large armies, corporations and governments. Hacktivists deal with a reality that is unacceptable to their eyes, by creating a system that makes said reality obsolete. Informed by these definitions, in recent years the authors have developed a taxonomy of nine hacker social movements: whistleblower, crypto-libertarians, anti-RFID, indignant consumer, anarchist, free, Wikipedian, DOAJ and cruncher. In this paper we focus on the cruncher hacker movement, particularly on the cruncher initiatives opposing the pharmaceuti-cal industry, through collaborative computer-assisted drug design for neglected diseases.
