Abstract

CASMIRO GALLO, Francesca Paola. “My Neighborhood Stemmed from Unlawful Occupation”. Periphery and Motherland in the Eyes of Little Boys and Girls in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas. Tabula Rasa [online]. 2022, n.43, pp.175-193.  Epub Mar 02, 2022. ISSN 1794-2489.

This article aims to study boys and girls’ views, living in the outskirts of Tuxtla Gutiérrez (Chiapas), about their motherlands (matrias), that is, the territories they are familiar with, the neighborhoods they come from. After a brief review of the urban area where the primary school community El Quetzal is settled, we were able to build two categories: periphery and matrias. This project has adopted a collaborative approach to meet the needs of single head of household mothers, by starting reading circles with children, undertaking educational actions based on popular education, participatory action research (PAR) and the latest collaborative methodologies being developed in Mexico and Latin America.

Keywords : periphery; matrias; little children; collaborative methodologies.
