Abstract

VILLACANAS BERLANGA, José Luis. In dialogue with Weber. On Carl Schmitt's The tyranny of values. Co-herencia [online]. 2013, vol.10, n.18, pp.13-40. ISSN 1794-5887.

This essay seeks to show the limits of Schmitt's work when facing fundamental philosophical questions. I will demonstrate that [1] The Tyranny of values regards the most fundamental nucleus of his thought. I will try to show [2] to what point Schmitt's final production looks askance at Heidegger's work, which in this particular case affects the centrality of Nietzsche's influence on his diagnosis of modernity. We will show how Nietzsche's image has determined the way in which both thinkers have approached Weber. I explain [3] that Weber's view does not share the centrality of Nietzsche's aesthetics, but assume the theory of the division of social action. I analyze [4] how that theory is the base of Schmitt's position and how he perceived that Weber's logic leads to an overcoming of the philosophy of value. I propose [5] a small conclusion about the possible meaning of this overcoming.

Keywords : Schmitt; The tyranny of values; Heidegger; Weber.
