Abstract

CARDONA Z, Patricia. Rhetoric, Materiality and Practice of Historical Knowledge in Colombia during the Second Half of the 19th Century. Co-herencia [online]. 2014, vol.11, n.21, pp.69-95. ISSN 1794-5887.

Rhetoric, as a technique responsible for the intelligibility of speech, for enunciation modes and spaces, for purposes and audiences, defined until the 19th century the existence of the so-called ''literary genres turned into history, literature and journalism'', all of them clearly differentiated areas today. Without rhetoric, the division of literary genres is incomprehensible; Issues such as narrative, editorial and educational traditions which delimited the writing procedures, the implementation of formats that contributed to the shaping of uses, audiences and ways of appropriation, and the regulation of representations about the work of historians, journalists and writers, are put aside. This article addresses some issues related to the constitution of historical knowledge in Colombia and emphasizes the relationship between history and formats, and history and history writers.

Keywords : History; rhetoric; literary genres; nation.
