Abstract
OROZCO CUELLO, Carlos; SANANDRES CAMPIS, Eliana and MOLINARES GUERRERO, Ivonne. Colombia, Panama and the Pan-American Highway: Agreements and Desagreements. memorias [online]. 2012, n.16, pp.101-130. ISSN 1794-8886.
This article is an analysis based on the results of a descriptive and explanatory research project which take up again the controversy arisen in the last decades about the construction of the Pan-American Highway in The Darien Gap, where this project has been stalled for more than 30 years because of the conflict of interests between the groups involved. The aim is to show, from the theoretical perspective of the complex interdependence, that the construction of the Pan-American Highway in the Darien Gap provides a joint road infrastructure that makes easier the continental integration, at the same time it benefits the relations between Colombia and Panama and its influence in South America, according to the premise that the cooperation between related territories ensures the necessary dimensions to develop a high degree of economic and political power.
Keywords : Pan-American Highway; Darien Gap; strategic negotiation; complex interdependence; continental integration.
