This article reviews the horizon of thought offered by some Colombian and Latin American thinkers and essayists, whose approaches are related to modernity as a social, political and ideological phenomenon that has its peak in the continent during the nineteenth century, and continues to take position and resignifying itself during the twentieth century. Based on the premise of Latin Americans, they have been thought more than they have thought themselves and recognizing that the philosophical foundations on which Latin American and Colombian thought and thinking are based have a basis in the Enlightenment and in the emergence of European political categories; it is necessary to record that these became valid in Latin America, through the secular thinkers who projected an ideal of republic taking as reference the changes generated in the European continent through ideological and military conquests, in an attempt to imitate the political and political categories. reproduce the libertarian values of the old continent in Latin America.
