Abstract

SANCHEZ, María Soledad. Economic interactions, symbolic interactions. An ethnographic approach to the social meaning of the "Blue" dollar in Argentina. Antipod. Rev. Antropol. Arqueol. [online]. 2013, n.17, pp.133-152. ISSN 1900-5407.

In this article, we analyze the social meaning of the "blue" dollar in Argentina, based on the characterization of the network of social relations in which it is (illegally) exchanged and on the moral meaning it represents. We consider that in late modern societies money should be seen in light of its semantic plurality. Through an ethnographic analysis of the illegal dollar market, we explore the relations between monetary practices, cultural meanings, and social relations.

Keywords : Blue dollar; illegal strategies; network; economic interactions; symbolic interactions.
