Abstract

TRUJILLO RODRIGUEZ, Maritza Andrea  and  VALENCIA AGUDELO, Germán Darío. Changing mentality: the transformation process of the Colombian National Army (2011-2018). Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2021, vol.19, n.36, pp.867-887.  Epub Oct 01, 2021. ISSN 1900-6586.  https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.804.

To face future challenges, the Colombian National Army undertook significant changes between 2011 and 2018 to transform itself; this coincided with the process leading to the Final Agreement with the FARC-EP, although at the Army's initiative. This article analyzes the Army's cognitive changes proposal in this period and its articulation with the post-agreement, following the approach of the new institutionalism in social sciences, through interviews and a review of military and organizational restructuring plans. It concludes that the Army has sought to introduce planned institutional changes in its members' mentality, habits, and conduct through a new command, an administrative reorganization, and a new ideological conception of the former adversary.

Keywords : armed forces; cognitive institutionalism; Damascus Doctrine; modernization; peace-building; post-conflict.
