Abstract

LOPES BRAGA, Natalia; ARAUJO LIMA, Deyseane Maria  and  HELOISA MACIEL, Regina. "Surviving only of mercy": the experience of recyclable material collectors. CES Psicol [online]. 2016, vol.9, n.1, pp.122-134. ISSN 2011-3080.

This research analyzed the experience of recyclable material collectors, aiming to identify how the social exclusion process affects their lives and the activities and experiences correlated to the process of social exclusion, their dreams and future expectations. It was conducted a qualitative field research using "Life -history "method, with the participation of two collectors. The results showed several difficulties they have to face every day; the recognition of discrimination; the dream of finding another job. Finally, it is highlighted how the background of these individuals is marked by a physical and economic exploitation, permeated by prejudices.
