SULLON BARRETO, Gleydi. "I Am Not Portuguese, but Creole of this Province Where my Mother is From". Daughters and Sons of Portuguese Born in the Viceroyalty of Peru, 1570-1700. Front. hist. [online]. 2022, vol.27, n.2, pp.133-155.  Epub July 01, 2022. ISSN 2027-4688.  https://doi.org/10.22380/20274688.2311.

This article focuses on case studies, analyzes the way in which these sons and daughters of Portuguese who were born in Peruvian territory, managed to develop their activities quite naturally. Although, from the legal point of view, they were considered natural from the kingdoms of Spain; in practice, they were still descendants of foreigners. This research addresses, on the one hand, the strategies that their parents used to consolidate the insertion of the family in the community; and on the other hand, the fields of initiative and action of our characters, who achieved full assimilation in the land of adoption of their parents, and in many cases a rapid and efficient social ascension.

Keywords : Viceroyalty of Peru; 16th and 17th centuries; family strategy; Portuguese; identifications.
