Abstract

This article discusses the querella benthamista (name by which is known the debate about the introduction of the Jeremy Bentham texts in Colombia in the nineteenth century) for the period 1825-1836, in order to provide a context that permit us to identify some historical circumstances and consider few documents about the controversy. Additionally, this paper introduce some assumptions about how the utilitarianism came to Colombia and the reasons to import this author and defend his ideas.
