Abstract

NUNEZ CORTES, Juan Antonio  and  MORENO-NUNEZ, Ana. Ibero-American university students about communicative competence and academic literacy. Zona prox. [online]. 2017, n.26, pp.44-60. ISSN 2145-9444.  https://doi.org/10.14482/zp.26.10212.

What importance do the university students attribute to the communicative competence? What degree of needs do they give to the training in academic literacy? For them, what is the role of the university? This research aims at describing and relating university students' opinion on the aspects connected to the communicative competence and the academic literacy. To give an answer to all these questions, it has been carried out a quantitative study based on a survey. The sample was made up of 546 students from six ibero-american countries (Argentina, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela) belonging to 21 ibero-american universities. The results, analyzed by the SPSS statistical program, point out at the importance given to this competence and the requested demand for training, which may be considered as an additional argument in favor of the prompt implementation of academic literacy initiatives in the universities of the region.

Keywords : academic literacy; iberoamerican students; communicative competence; academic writing.
