Abstract

The article analyzes the institutional history of the School of Domestic Arts and Trades and the San José Asylum for abandoned children, two institutions created by the Beneficencia de Cundinamarca (Department of Welfare of Cundinamarca), to provide assistance and education to orphan and abandoned children. The analysis is based on the reports submitted on child protection submitted to the General Welfare Board by the Social Assistance Secretary and the scientific and administrative directors of these institutions during the years 1938, 1939, 1944, and 1946. The objective of the paper is to analyze, describe, and contextualize the operation and daily life of these institutions.
