Abstract

CORDOBA PINZON, Andrea Antonia. Importance of Cartographic Language: Section Analysis in Route Maps, Bogotá-Medellín: 1997, 2006 and 2010. Rev. Ciudades Estados Política [online]. 2020, vol.7, n.1, pp.15-30.  Epub Dec 13, 2021. ISSN 2462-9103.

The information management used for representing distances and altimetries which is found in route maps, allows the visibility of data through tables, graphs, photographs, profiles and images. According to the above, the following question arises: Is the information about distances and altimetry in the route maps clear for a group of users of various levels? In order to answer this question, this article proposes a mixed type of research exercise, in which it was used cartographic material in an analogous format of distance charts and altimetry profiles of the Bogotá-Medellín route maps; also it was applied a semi-structured survey. The objective of the research was to analyze the reading on the route maps of the Bogotá-Medellín route of 1997, 2006 and 2010 carried out by a group of users and investigate the clarity, difficulty and ways of reading the distance chart and altimetry profiles.

Keywords : thematic cartography; distance chart; readings; altimetry profile; route map; perception.
