Abstract
VELEZ-MONTES, Gladis. The Unemployed Protection Scheme: Literature Review, in the Theoretical Framework of Unemployment Insurance for Colombia. Ens. Econ. [online]. 2022, vol.32, n.61, pp.80-101. Epub Mar 22, 2023. ISSN 0121-117X. https://doi.org/10.15446/ede.v32n61.96326.
The protection mechanism for the unemployed is a palliative tool of the Colombian State, for situations of poverty and vulnerability, which are generated when one or more family members lose their job. This tool responds to the need to comply with the functions of protecting the unemployed when the existing unemployment benefits are not met. Currently, it is especially relevant, given the declaration of the state of economic and social emergency generated by the Covid-19 pandemic, in which this mechanism became the means through which temporary labor measures were implemented to reduce the impact of the coronavirus in workers and employees. Given the important role of said tool, this article includes conclusive literature on the effects of unemployment benefits and studies that relate the unemployment protection mechanism, its operational characteristics and the possible effects of its application in the theoretical framework of unemployment insurance.
