Abstract
JEREZ-JAIMES, Javier H; CETINA-TARAZONA, Maria A. and ARAQUE-GOMEZ, Cindy N.. FIRST RECORD OF THE BRYOZOA Stomatopora aff. cunningtoni (ORDER: CYCLOSTOMATA, FAMILY: STOMATOPORIDAE) IN THE LOWER CRETACEOUS OF COLOMBIA. bol.geol. [online]. 2013, vol.35, n.2, pp.47-51. ISSN 0120-0283.
For the first time, the genus Stomatopora Bronn 1825 (Bryozoa: Cyclostomata) is reported in the Rosa Blanca Formation from the lower Cretaceous of Colombia. The studied material corresponds to two brachiopod shells of Sellithyris sella species on which Stomatopora colonies were found. Zooecia present two types of growth, tufts and pseudopolygons, that make the Colombian species look like Stomatopora (Proboscina) cunningtoni from the Jurassic. This record shows the wide geographic distribution of the Stomatopora genus during the Cretaceous period, and it is probably the first report for the Cretaceous of South America.
Keywords : Bryozoa; Rosa Blanca Formation; Sellithyris sella; Zapatoca.
