Abstract
GUTIERREZ LESMES, ÓSCAR. Factors that determine the application of nursing processes in hospitals in Villavicencio, Colombia, 2008. av.enferm. [online]. 2009, vol.27, n.1, pp.60-68. ISSN 0121-4500.
The nursing process (NP) is the scientific tool to provide quality care. Purpose: to describe the use of NP by nurses from four hospitals when providing care to patients and the factors that influence the use of such NP. Method: transversal, descriptive, exploratory study, through standardized interviews prior informed consent, to 48 nurses. The statistic analysis was carried out using Microsoft Excel and SPSS V. 12. Descriptive and risk estimation were calculated. Conclusions: the results evidenced that the lack of time during the shift (OR: 6,53 IC 95% 1,41-30,26, p 0,022), working on administration of medicines (OR: 11,57 IC 95% 1,172; 114,26, p: 0,037) and having more than 4 years of professional practice (OR: 10,1 IC 95% 1,260; 79,33, p: 0,052) are decisive factors to not apply NP, knowing how to perform it (OR: ,029 IC 95% ,002; ,388, p: ,004) is a decisive factor for its application. Only 3 nurses out of 10 apply NP to provide care to patients. The results indicate the state of nursing as profession in clinics, the quality of care received by the patients and the possibility of adverse events occurring. The recommendation is to put forth studies on this matter and to strengthen information on NP for both nurses in service as well as for undergraduates.
