Given its advantages, drones are becoming a key weapon in contemporary armed conflicts. This article aims to answer some questions related to that reality: How competent is the international legal system to regulate it? Can the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) prevent this weapon from the unlimited havocs? Is it possible to enforce a different international legal statute from the IHL to regulate the use of drones? What would be the role of the IHL in the event the State utilizes drones against non-state armed actors or these use them against the State? The methodology for answering these questions will be to review and compare the action of the drones with respect to the Law of the Air War, the Law of Geneva and the rules on the use of drones in space. It will find that despite the obsolescence and generality of some rules, IHL is fully applicable to the use of drones for military purposes.
