Abstract
MARTIN GABALDON, Marta and ESCOBAR OHMSTEDE, Antonio. Conflicts and Negotiations on Natural Resources in the Valles Centrales of Oaxaca, 18 th Century. The Case of Santo Domingo Tomaltepec and Tlalixtac. Front. hist. [online]. 2024, vol.29, n.1, pp.84-115. Epub Jan 01, 2024. ISSN 2027-4688. https://doi.org/10.22380/20274688.2603.
The paper aims to investigate the conflicts and negotiations surrounding natural resources, mainly from the forest, that took place in an area where Spanish jurisdictions converged in the Valles Centrales of Oaxaca, Mexico, during the 18th century. Although we consider that the land composition process could have been a catalyst for some conflictive situations, we identified earlier circumstances that put the communities at an advantage and disadvantage concerning land legalization. We also try to establish an analytical dialogue between the situations of the recent past -19th and 20th centuries- and those at the end of the colonial period, based on questioning ourselves about the possession and use of land and its resources and the construction of territories stemming from this.
Keywords : territory; natural resources; possession; land compositions.
