Abstract

ZAVALA CAUDILLO, Aurora. Itineraries of sexual exploitation of urban young women from working-class neighborhoods in Cancún. Trab. soc. [online]. 2018, vol.20, n.1, pp.23-46. ISSN 2256-5493.

The article presents testimonies that illustrate the acts of violence suffered by some of the young women from working-class neighborhoods in Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico, in 2011. On the basis of the theoretical perspectives of hermeneutics and gender studies, it seeks to account for the diverse processes that shape and give rise to sexual exploitation. The article suggests that the social bond created by dating organizes meaning, while, at the same time, preserving and reproducing the logic of male domination that marks these women's everyday lives.

Keywords : social class; sexual exploitation; gender; young women; trafficking in women; acts of violence.
