Abstract

This text presents some aspects of the debate on policies to approach poverty in Brazil. Therefore, it exposes the constitutional foundation of poverty eradication in the country and the challenges imposed on its materialization. We problematized the mechanisms to deal with poverty, especially the approaches related to biological aspects, basic needs, deprivation of capacities and poverty as a multidimensional phenomenon. Finally, it discusses the place that has the confronting of poverty on the public agenda, through the policies and actions that the Brazilian State has been developing since the 1990s.
