The article analyzes Of Love and Other Demons (1994) by Gabriel García Márquez using the Ifá oracle as the main mythological, literary, and philosophical source. According to our reading, the Ifá oracle, as a system of meaning, is much more relevant for the analysis of Caribbean works than European approaches. The article carries out a comparison between Sierva María de Todos los Ángeles and the Yoruba goddess Oshún, the Óríshá of love, syncretized with the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre. The analysis of this Afro-Caribbean philosophical archetype takes into account the aesthetic and conceptual components of the heroine/goddess Sierva/Oshún in the book and its representation of the archetypal drama.
