Abstract

GALLOR GUARIN, Jorge Orlando. Juan de Valdés' Diálogo de la lengua as an Ectopic Work. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2020, vol.22, n.1, pp.243-270.  Epub Apr 13, 2020. ISSN 0123-5931.  https://doi.org/10.15446/lthc.v22n1.82299.

The article analyzes the Diálogo de la lengua (Dialogue on Language), written by Cuenca native, Juan de Valdés, on the basis of the theory of ectopic literature set forth by Tomás Albaladejo and Francisco Chico Rico. The typical elements of both the culture of origin and the culture of destination, present in the author's work and used deliberately in different rhetorical operations with perlocutionary purposes, influence directly the construction of the work. They also confirm the work's marked ectopic character, since its construction shows that the author was very familiar with the new space of reception, immersed himself in it, and adapted his work according to the rhetorical aptum.

Keywords : Diálogo de la lengua; Juan de Valdés; ectopic literature; cultural rhetoric.
