Abstract

RODRIGUES FILHO, Raymundo. The use of earth as a construction element in Brazil: a short panorama of its history, management, use, challenges and paradigms. Apuntes [online]. 2007, vol.20, n.2, pp.232-241. ISSN 1657-9763.

Technological and scientific improvements have been neglecting Nature, mankind and life itself as one single matter. Therefore, we live in a paradoxical situation: on one hand, society is reaching provisions with more convenience. On the other hand, a cartesian consciousness is taking place where everyone is part of that same mosaic and yet independent and without uniting purposes. This has raised a global movement of ideas and habits slaughtered by disrespect for local cultures, climate realities and so on. A change on paradigm is demanded, a new consciousness where an integrated and systemic vision prevails. In all sectors and branches, this is necessary and possible. This way the search for cultural estate preservation and better inhabitability conditions -main basis for all humanity, such as health, work and freedom, cannot be put aside. The present subject is a draft of restless views, propositions and practices involving means to use materials of low impact as an exercise to rescue and preserve values. This intention presents other ways to guarantee better living conditions for future generations.

Keywords : Cultural heritage; low-cost housing; methodical thinking; sustainability.
