Abstract

RIVERO BOLANOS, Santiago. The massive use of earth as construction material in Colombia. Apuntes [online]. 2007, vol.20, n.2, pp.354-363. ISSN 1657-9763.

Although still marginally, architecture built with earth is getting more and more attention. The gold mine of building with earth is the development of sumptuous projects. Although this is important as well, the risk exists that earth architecture might be seen as an upper class trend. Since ten years, the Tierra Viva foundation is realizing various projects that seek to position earth as a material that is capable of improving quality of life at all levels and at a low cost. Pilot low-cost housing projects developed in cooperation with governments and public institutions are beginning to prove that a legal framework considering building with earth is a social need in Colombia.

Keywords : Architecture; housing; normalization; habitat; adobe bricks.
