Abstract

DIAZ ROSILLO, Alberto; LESCANO LOPEZ, Galia Susana  and  PAZ PALACIOS, Walter Rolando. The relationship between universal values and academic commitment in Peruvian Army and Navy cadets. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2020, vol.18, n.31, pp.495-521.  Epub Dec 05, 2020. ISSN 1900-6586.  https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.609.

This study explores the importance of Schwartz's universal values, the level of academic commitment, and their relationship in cadets from military schools in Peru. To this end, a structured survey was conducted with 1282 Army and Navy cadets. The responses were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling. The validity and reliability of the scales were established, and a direct relationship was found between the values and academic commitment for each of the samples considered (full sample, Army School, Naval School, male cadets, and female cadets). The existing significant relationships were analyzed by individual and group values, as well as dimensions of commitment. The differences between the samples were also analyzed by military courses of study in each school and by sex.

Keywords : academic commitment; academic performance; educational psychology; military education; moral values.
