Abstract
CARDONA-ANGARITA, Jorge Mauricio. Colombian military doctrine in officers' practices during the internal armed conflict (1995-1998). Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2020, vol.18, n.31, pp.607-625. Epub Dec 06, 2020. ISSN 1900-6586. https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.606.
This article addresses the Colombian Army's military doctrine and its relationship with practices during the internal armed conflict from 1995-1998. First, the development of the Colombian military doctrine in that period and the United States and other countries' influence on it, as well as its eclectic combining with the national doctrine in the face of the irregular conflict, was addressed through qualitative analysis. Then, the practices and their relationship with the doctrine were analyzed in a sample of 180 then active Army officers participating in surveys, interviews and a focus group, based on four operational setbacks suffered at the time. It was found that, although the officers recognized and valued the doctrine, they faced complex situations that led them to take initiatives with varying results.
