Abstract
GANTMAN, Ernesto Rubén. Productivity and impact in Argentine social sciences: economics and sociology at the CONICET. Rev. Interam. Bibliot [online]. 2023, vol.46, n.2, e04. Epub Sep 05, 2023. ISSN 0120-0976. https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.rib.v46n2e351637.
This article analyzes the productivity and impact of Argentine social scientists in economics and sociology with the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. The main goal of this research is to examine the effect of the researchers' orientation towards greater visibility in Scopus upon their productivity and scholarly prestige. The findings indicate that researchers in economics have higher levels of productivity and impact in Scopus than their sociology peers. Moreover, it can be concluded that visibility in Scopus has a positive effect on scholarly prestige, operationalized by the Scopus h-index, in both economics and sociology; while it only has a positive impact on the Google Scholar h-index in the case of sociology. Visibility in Scopus also has a negative and statistically significant effect on productivity (number of documents) in Google Scholar, but only in sociology. If the dependent variable is productivity in Scopus, visibility in this database has a positive impact in both disciplines.
