Abstract
PINZON BELLO, Jorge Alejo. MOLECULAR STRUCTURE-VISCOSITY RELATIONSHIP OF ORGANOPHILIC BENTONITE SUSPENSIONS. Rev.Colomb.Quim. [online]. 2006, vol.35, n.1, pp.29-40. ISSN 0120-2804.
A sample of bentonite, was treated with the cations tetramethylammonium, tetraethylammonium, benzyltriethylammonium, tetrabutylammonium, tetradecyltrimethylammonium, benzyltributhylammonium, hexadecyltrimethylammonium, didecyldimethylammonium, alkylbencyldimethylammonium, benzyldimethyltetradecylammonium, methyltrioctylammonium and benzyldimethylhexadecylammonium, to obtain organophilic compounds. The viscosity of suspensions of the compounds, in ethanol-glycerine mixtures was related with molecular descriptors of the structure of the quaternary ammonium cations. In order to establish the regression equations, the data were divided in two groups: one of them corresponding to cations with aliphatic chains only, and the other one, in which the cation chains contain the benzyl group. For both groups, a linear equation with several variables was found, with correlation coefficient 0.9956 and 0.9997, respectively.
