Since an anti-essentialist approach this article provides an analysis about the contingent nature of identities. Taking as reference the popular group Los Del Sur to show how political identities can emerge, resignify, and become politicized in contexts of social dislocation. Hence, it is described to what extent factors such as context, organizational structure, the group's repertoire of practices, and institutionality through public policies have influenced the historical development of the organization, in its political identity.
