This study aims to design a model of participatory management and sustainable development based on rural tourism in the Cusco region. This approach is developed in a methodology of applied type and descriptive level through two data collection instruments that were the observation and the questionnaire applied to 67 rural tourism enterprises present in the area. The results show the need to improve the living conditions of the locals and the support they need to progress in their enterprises, create new sources of work and thereby offer a better service to future tourists who visit them. It is concluded that there must be an improvement in rural tourism considering the protection of the environment, being in this case strictly necessary since from there it is intended to obtain growth.

Keywords : sustainable development; rural tourism; participatory management.
