Abstract
STUHLDREHER, Amalia Margarita and MORALES OLMOS, Virginia. ENERGY AND CLIMATE CHANGE IN MERCOSUR: CHALLENGES OF ARTICULATING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT POLICIES. anal.polit. [online]. 2020, vol.33, n.99, pp.41-60. ISSN 0121-4705. https://doi.org/10.15446/anpol.v33n99.90937.
With a regional governance perspective, this work links the evolution of the energy matrices of the MERCOSUR countries with the debate on renewable energies and their impacts in mitigating climate change. The case of Uruguay is analyzed, contrasting it with Argentina and Brazil. Starting from divergent situations in terms of the institutions and actors involved, points of convergence are analyzed given the evolution of electricity exchanges between Uruguay and its MERCOSUR partners in recent years. The analysis focuses on the investment process in the renewable energy sector in Uruguay, the current situation and the medium-term prospects. Given the complexity of the 2015 Agenda and the need to strengthen climate governance, some perspectives of regional and national processes are outlined considering the transition towards more assertive sustainable development models.
