Abstract
GOMEZ ALBARELLO, Juan Gabriel. THE DAY AFTER AND THE REPARATIVE LEADERSHIPS: THE NEED FOR A NEW POLITICAL LEADERSHIP FOR POST-PANDEMIC TIMES. anal.polit. [online]. 2021, vol.34, n.101, pp.120-143. Epub July 12, 2021. ISSN 0121-4705. https://doi.org/10.15446/anpol.v34n101.96564.
The economic crisis unleashed by the COVID -19 pandemic can give rise to phenomena of collective regression, which, in turn, may lead to the emergence of leaders who encourage breaking the rules of the game and promote the concentration of power. However, the very same crisis may be an opportunity for the appearance of a new type of leadership that creatively and constructively channels the tensions caused by the loss and humiliation experienced by many individuals. Psychoanalyst Vamik Volkan calls this kind of leadership reparative. However, the metaphor he uses to give content to this concept reveals that it is anchored in the same regressive dynamic that it seeks to overcome. For this reason, this paper proposes a new concept of leadership without leaders, which-based on its collective character, rotation, and selection by lot-would allow recovering the idea of politics as a public service.
