Abstract
CARRIZOSA UMANA, Julio. Sustainable new towns at the Caribe and Orinoquía regions. rev.ing. [online]. 2009, n.30, pp.81-89. ISSN 0121-4993.
A regional policy of new towns development is proposed in order to obtain a better quality of life, a more rational use of energy, water and soil resources and alleviation of population pressure in the large cities, lower costs of contamination management and mitigation of impacts of urban population on ecosystems. Geographic, historic, social and economic obstacles in contamination management are noted and the case of the capital is analyzed. Engineering roles in obtaining sustainable cities are outlined. Priority in the development of new towns in the Caribe and Orinoquía is recommended.
