Abstract

RODRIGUEZ-PONCE, Emilio  and  PEDRAJA-REJAS, Liliana. An analysis of the impact of strategic decision-making on public organisations' effectiveness. Innovar [online]. 2009, vol.19, n.35, pp.33-46. ISSN 0121-5051.

This research was aimed at ascertaining the quality of strategic decisions regarding their impact on organisational effectiveness in public organisations. Likewise, how variables related to strategic decision-making influenced the quality of the decisions so adopted was also identified. A sample of 37 public organisations in the north of Chile was thus taken. The results of the investigation from the sample of public institutions analysed here showed that 35.9% of organisational effectiveness was explained by the strategic decisions' quality (p<0.01) and that decision-making explained 74.4% of the strategic decisions' quality (p<0.01), rationality (p<0.076), cognitive conflict (p<0.01) and cognitive flexibility (p<0.015) being the most relevant variables from a statistical point of view.

Keywords : strategic decision; effectiveness; public organisation.
