Abstract
MARTINS-RIBEIRO, Alexandra-Ferreira and DUDEQUE-PIANOVSKI-VIEIRA, Alboni-Marisa. Prosopography: State of Knowledge about the Methodology in Brazil. Hist. Soc. [online]. 2023, n.44, pp.203-230. Epub Feb 22, 2024. ISSN 0121-8417. https://doi.org/10.15446/hys.n44.101054.
This article had prosopography as its object of study and, as its specific objectives, identify the use of prosopography, systematize, and examine the dominant approaches in the use of this methodology in Brazil. The proposed question was to know how prosopography has been used in research conducted in the country and what are the prioritized approaches. To this purpose, the "state of knowledge" methodology was used, with data collection conducted on the Portal of Periodicals of the CAPES, a virtual library that makes scientific production available in Brazil to the community. The time frame comprised the period between 1990 and 2019, from the creation of the Portal to the time of data collection, corresponding to the last thirty years of academic production in the country. Theoretical subsidies were obtained from the studies of Christophe Charle, Lawrence Stone e Charles Tilly. Fifty-two articles were selected that discussed prosopography and focused on methodology, group of politicians, group and elites, military group, women's group, and various. From the analysis, it was possible to perceive that the articles published in Brazil, which used prosopography as an analysis tool, came from the areas of knowledge of the disciplines of History and Sociology.
