Abstract
BLANCO-ECHEVERRY, María del Pilar. Emergency and urgency of university gender policies in Colombia. Prospectiva [online]. 2023, n.35, e20512225. Epub Dec 21, 2022. ISSN 0122-1213. https://doi.org/10.25100/prts.v0i35.12225.
Thinking about gender equality in Colombian universities is the beginning of a path that seems irreversible if they want to be at the forefront of the world when it comes to higher education. One of the routes chosen by countries that have a logistical and temporary advantage in this area is the implementation of university gender policies, which are intended to counter inequality between men and women in Higher Education Institutions; with which, among other matters, they seek to demonstrate their social commitment to promoting gender equality in countries where it appears as an articulated principle or goal for sustainable development. The first purpose of this reflection article is to take a short tour of gender equality in the recent western context. As a result, it was found that gender equality in the university world is a question that responds to the demands of women's social movements, the equality policies of each country and a series of international declarations that seek to stimulate the participation of the university in this matter with a view to development. Finally, and articulated to the above, the second purpose of this document is to propose university gender policies as bets of structural transformation that can face violence, discrimination, the inequality, etc., that exist in Colombian university communities.
