Abstract

LOPEZ DEL CASTILLO WILDERBEEK, Francisco Leslie. Generative Artificial Intelligence: Technological Determinism or Socially Constructed Artifact. Palabra Clave [online]. 2024, vol.27, n.1, e2719.  Epub Mar 20, 2024. ISSN 0122-8285.  https://doi.org/10.5294/pacla.2024.27.1.9.

This article discusses generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) using the social construction of technology (SCOT) model, observing the social actors affected by this technology with influence to decide their future. The results indicate that the success of GenAI does not have a neutral origin but is conditioned by the interests of various social actors. However, it also suggests that this technology is in a phase of interpretive flexibility; that is, the affected groups are still deciding their position on GenAI and what it could be like.

Keywords : Social construction of technology; technological determinism; GenAI; generative artificial intelligence; SCOT.
