Abstract
CARDONA ZULUAGA, PATRICIA. Fierce hordes, victims, and belligerents. Colombia in the 1859-1862 or the War for Sovereignties. Hist. Caribe [online]. 2022, vol.17, n.41, pp.149-175. Epub Dec 20, 2022. ISSN 0122-8803. https://doi.org/10.15648/hc.41.2022.3373.
By studying four first-person texts (self-documents), which deal with the events of the War for Sovereignties (1859-1862), this article discusses the emerging but significant concern for the wounded, recruits, battlefield horrors, victim's re-signifying, social representations around peace as ideal and practice. These texts show how the degradation of this conflict motivated interest in its effects on society and favored the incorporation of legal mechanisms that put limits on war, as was done in the Constitution of 1863.
