Abstract
MEZETA CANUL, LUIS ÁNGEL. Insurgent corsairs and navigators in Yucatan and the Circum-Caribbean during the wars of independence: La Prospina, the Lafitte and Mina. 1816-1820. Hist. Caribe [online]. 2023, vol.18, n.42, pp.43-73. Epub Aug 13, 2023. ISSN 0122-8803. https://doi.org/10.15648/hc.42.2023.3626.
This article explores the problems of the insurgency and counterinsurgency movement in the Caribbean region. On an Atlantic scale, the connections established around the processes of Spanish-American Independence in the Caribbean Sea are explored. The interconnections in the maritime insurgency are an example of the case of warlord Francisco Javier Mina. Similarly, it is evaluated whether or not there are any sailors, known as pirates or rebel corsairs, in the Seno Mexicano and Yucatán. The sources consulted to support this research come from various files of the "Secretaría de Estado" collection of the Archivo General de Indias and the "Operaciones de Guerra" collection of the Archivo General de la Nación (Mexico), which are complemented by documents transcribed and compiled by José Luciano Franco from the National Archive of Cuba.
