PLATA RANGEL, Ángela María; HOLGUIN AGUIRRE, María Teresa; SAENZ ZAPATA, Orlando and CALLEJAS RESTREPO, María Mercedes. 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals: Contributions of Higher Education Institutions to the Environmental Dimension. The research on the environmental commitment of 60 Colombian higher education institutions (HEIs) conducted in 2017 revealed their involvement in and commitment to the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Based on this finding, the article aims to present the relationship between HEIs and SDGs based on knowledge and practice. Thus, the five SDGs that the institutions prioritize are identified: 4 (Quality Education), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and 3 (Good Health and Well-being). The analysis is carried out from the institutional environmental systems (IES) approach, integrating five areas: 1) environmental policies and participation, 2) environmental teaching and training, 3) environmental research, 4) socio-environmentalprojection, and 5) campus environmental management and planning. SDG 4 becomes the most relevant for higher education. Regarding government and environmental training, the contributions are mainly associated with target 4.7 (Educationfor sustainable development). For environmental research, the SDG most related to HEI projects is 15 (Life on Land), while for environmental management, the most related SDGs are 11 and 12. Socio-environmental outreach and projection are associated with 4 and 11. In conclusion, each area analyzed shows HEIs' commitment to the 2030 Agenda. Although the initially conceived actions are not derived in all cases from this agenda, HEIs are contributing to different SDGs and their targets, SDG 4 being the main point.
